TWO-TIME
OLYMPIAN LINDSAY ALCOCK RETIRES
FROM COMPETITIVE
RACING
- Alcock to focus on motivational speaking
before pursuing
chiropractic school next fall -
The Canadian Skeleton team is extremely deep and talented
and throughout our selection races over the last six
weeks it was apparent to me that the odds were not
in my favor to qualify for the 2010 squad. I did not
have the inner drive anymore to continue competing
at this high level. After 10 incredible years of racing
competitively, I am leaving the program stronger than
it has ever been, and I am proud to pass the gauntlet
on to the new generation of young sliders. To be an
Olympian once is remarkable, but to go to two Olympics
shows character, an ability to balance life and finances,
and the longevity of excellence. It is something I
am very proud of.
I couldn't have achieved success without the help
from my family, friends, teammates, coaches, medical
staff, and sport psychologists. Thank you for your
incredible commitment to my sport program and for helping
me bring my performance to such a high level. Thank
you to Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton for believing in my
abilities from the very beginning and for supporting
my decision to exit out of the sport. To my sponsors,
ARC Energy Trust and The Starratt Team, you saw me
through both the highs and the lows and your unwavering
support was integral to the longevity I achieved in
my sport career. Finally, a big thank you to the Canadian
Sport Centre Calgary for helping me with valuable resources
and workshops during the span of my career. Your continuous
presence was another key ingredient that did not go
unnoticed.
To all of my fans, thank you for your emails of support.
It's been a wonderful ride over the last decade and
I am humbled by your kind words. Here's to the next
chapter!
Best wishes,
Lindsay
